Recently, I talked about how sick we have all been and how traditional medicine just wasn’t kickin’ it. Out of sheer frustration, I took the bull, or rather flu, by the horns and fought the battle with natural remedies. The tide turned and we could taste victory. Or was that the weird soup?

So what worked for us? Let me tell you about the bag of tricks I pulled out. That morning, I had to go to the chiropractor and he asked me if I’d heard about putting Vicks on their feet to help with the coughs. I had heard, but I’d forgotten! I told him I was desperate enough to try and would let him know if it worked.

That night, I had the kids all get in their pajamas and bring a pair of socks with them into the living room. We pulled out the Vicks and the kids looked at us like we’d sprouted wings. Or maybe they were thinking horns cause this seemed like an evil plot to them. I mean, can you imagine having Vicks squishing between your toes?

We slathered the Vicks on feet and chest and put their socks on. We were ALL high from Vicks fumes, but breathing easier.

The next day, I went out and bought more ammunition. I pumped vitamin C in them. Poured water through them. Made them rest a lot.

We drank a lot of herbal teas: honey lemon, chamomile, etc. Amber nursed. Nobody else was interested.

We took equal parts of honey and lemon and heated it enough to mix thoroughly and put this in a jar. The dose: 1 teaspoon every four hours.

We made a soup to help fight the crude and boost the immune system. This stuff was power packed and I put whatever amount (me? measure?) of: chicken broth, chicken, ginger root, onions, garlic cloves (minced), carrots, potatoes, and cayenne pepper. We took a bite. Bland chased by a spicy kick. A weird sensation. We had small portions throughout the day.

We used lavender and eucalyptus essential oils in little burners and in the humidifier. The air conditioner came on at night and the windows were opened during the day. On a decent day, I even dragged our sick selves down to the park for some fresh air.

They made a fast improvement after all this when traditional didn’t do a thing.

You bet I’ll be learning more about natural remedies.

Erica Johns has a wonderful sense of humor and conversational writing style. Reading Supermom’s Simple Guide to Healthier Eating for Beginners and Beyond! is like chatting with a friend in your kitchen.

I enjoyed reading straight through the ebook, but the real value comes when you use it as a reference. Making small changes over time will help you revamp your eating lifestyle without it becoming an overwhelming process. She gives you permission to do what you can, when you can without guilt.

Erica covers beverages, breakfast ideas, lunch and dinner ideas, ingredients, and principles for healthier eating. She includes lots of recipes and tips to help you get started. I already make lemonade sweetened with Stevia, but I had no idea Stevia came in various flavors like root beer and chocolate! She has some neat recipes to use these with that I’m looking forward to trying.

I’ve been researching healthy eating for years, but I learned some new things to try and plan to make even more changes one at a time thanks to Erica’s suggestions. Plus, she lists some additional resources to check out.

All in all, Supermom’s Simple Guide to Healthier Eating for Beginners and Beyond! is a terrific resource to use on your journey towards healthier eating. Erica also has another ebook called Supermom’s Simple Guide to Super Salads which sounds good, too.

If you’d like to find out more about Erica Johns’ ebooks and her other products, check out her website, Supermom’s Health and Wellness.

If you could only use one type of makeup, but have all the shades you wanted, what would it be and why? I know, only being allowed to use one type of makeup is like, SCARY!

Leave a comment with your answer before you read on. Go ahead. I’ll wait.

Do dum ditty ditty dum ditty do…

Okay. Here’s my answer:

I’d choose eyeshadow in several shades! I’d use some pink for my cheeks, some vanilla for highlighting various areas on my face, smokey gray or plum or purple or brown to line under my eye and a black to line above my eye. Then I’d use whatever colors I wanted for that day for, well, eyeshadow on my eyes. I could even use it to darken or fill in my eyebrows if needed. Versatile, no?

I’m not sure I could get it to work as lip stick though. HMMM.

And what does this have to do with anything? Well, makeup is definitely sassy and something I enjoy playing around with. Look for some makeup tips and tricks coming soon. :)

My husband bought the a dash of sassitude domain for me (thank you honey) and I’ve enjoyed making it purty and ready for you to see.

Check out the links up top for events and giveaways, linky love, sassy places, memes, etc. I’m still getting things set up, but I couldn’t wait any longer to move over here. It will take a while to import the old posts and comments from blogger (see this post on what’s taking so long).

Over on the sidebar is a new button for a dash of sassitude. You may want to update the button you have now as this one is much sassier and has the right url on it. :)

Also, if you are a subscriber, you need to resubscribe here so you don’t miss any fun happenings. I have some surprises on the way!

So, what do you think of the new place? Does it have a dash of sassitude?

If you happen to stumble onto this blog before I’m ready, pardon the dust. I have to move each post and all the comments over one. at. a. time. Can we say fun? Oh no we can’t. :(

I also can’t seem to figure out how to add a second sidebar which I’d like to do BEFORE I add all the fun stuff to the side.

But once I’m done, I will be so happy over here on my own domain using Wordpress!

So welcome and uh, I’ll open soon. I hope.

Change of plans: There is no way I’m moving each comment over. There are hundreds! Ack. I really wish this would have imported for me. :(

We were hit hard by the flu here. Fevers, croup (it sounded like we had some barking seals in the house), sore throats, ear aches, runny noses, stuffed noses, chapped skin, sinus infections, headaches, chills, coughs, throwing up, sleep troubles…it has been loads of fun. I’ve been so tired, I’ve spoken nonsense at times lol.

We had to steam the kids, take them out in the cold air, give prescription meds, put Vicks on feet and chests, drink loads of tea, drink plenty of water, eat an immune boosting soup, take honey and lemon mixture, get lots of rest, pray, spend nights sitting up, spend days snuggling sick little ones - it’s been exhausting.

I have felt anything but sassy for over a month.

Are we done yet? Not quite. In fact, I’d love to crawl in bed as my ears and throat hurt right now, but I’ve missed blogging and figured I should let everyone know what’s up. Most of the kids are back to healthy. Hubby and I seem to be bring up the tail end of this fun round of the flu.

I will say this - there was a drastic improvement when I kicked the natural remedies into full gear. I’ll share some of what I did for a works for me Wednesday post soon. :)

In the midst of the chaos here, my darling hubby bought my own domain for a dash of sassitude and I’m working on setting up a new wordpress blog for it. Only one problem, I can’t seem to figure out how to get a second sidebar. If anyone can guide me, I’d be ever so grateful!

It’s seriously slowing me down with the launch of the new site. I hope to unveil the new blog soon!
